Workshop Summary: On Thursday, March 25, 2004, the AACSN sponsored its second workshop at the Sunnyvale Senior Center, Laurel Room. The topic was "Understanding and Overcoming Your Emotions when Diagnosed with Cancer". The guest presenter was Daren D. Lowman, M.A., Family Therapist.

Daren discussed "What is Grief?", the various phases of grieving, the types of emotions encountered while grieving, different methods of dealing with grief in a healthy manner, and what are the roles of a therapist and support group. Daren is a cancer survivor himself; therefore, he spoke of his personal experiences and how he dealt with his own grief and loss.

Additionally, a list of cancer support groups identified by the American Cancer Society was provided to the attendees. Daren has been generous enough offer his services to AACSN members at a reduced cost.
